Children’s Hospital & Medical Center

Bringing healthcare miracles to life in print

Children’s Hospital & Medical Center is a special place, and it deserves a special publication to tell its stories.

Not long after unveiling the Children’s Hospital & Medical Center rebrand, we were asked to design a new publication to highlight the comprehensive and innovative care the pediatric health system provides to the region’s children and their families.

Intended to be forward-looking and informative, its pages should reflect the brand, and the organization’s mission to provide the best possible care to children. To capture this, we recommended pops of bright colors and images of the faces of those the organization serves. Articles further personalize the stories of the children and the doctors, specialists, nurses and medical caregivers who treat them.

The result is Spira, a biannual magazine for Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.

The first issue coincided with the unveiling of Children’s new Specialty Pediatric Center. Subsequent issues opened minds and hearts to the wondrous procedures and therapies that now help heal ill children from across the country and around the world.

The name, Spira, is borrowed from the striking logo we designed for the health care system, the “spira mirabilis” or marvelous spiral, a colorful, symmetrical design that depicts the energetic spirit of a child and the care Children’s Hospital & Medical Center provides.

Our brand strategy for the organization called for a concept that did not single-mindedly focus on care, but includes the core principles of education and research in a kid-friendly atmosphere.

We continue to advance that strategy with every issue of Spira.
